Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born in Lynn located in Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Lithuanian Jews Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. When she was young, her carnival barker father passed away, leaving Ruth's mother no option but to become a cleaner girl and waitress to feed the family. Ruth was born in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts where she enrolled in the school. Her school was closed in two years, to go into acting. It was not without problems. When she was offered a job in New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she was unable to find opportunities in the stage. Then, after a stint as a club hat girl, she decided to return to her home in Massachusetts and leave the job she was working in. She was in Boston when she worked at evening as an actor for the New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time as an usherette. She studied drama in The Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
